ON THE ISLAND:

Diamond Cove is just a short ferry ride from Portland, but delightfully remote from the workaday world. Everything is within easy walking distance - or bring your bicycles or kayaks for exploring our silent, wooded paths and rocky coast.

  • Heated Olympic-size pool

  • Nine Stones day spa at Diamond Cove 207-766-0999...pamper yourself!

  • Five secluded, private beaches – including “the sea glass beach”

  • Waterfront picnic area with charcoal grill and picnic table

  • Miles of trails through old growth forest, which you will share with our elusive moose and resident deer. Seals, osprey, herons and loons are frequently seen along the shore.

  • The Moon Garden, formerly the Engineer’s Wharf, is a charming destination for a balmy evening stroll.

  • The ice pond was man-made, and used to produce ice for the Fort. Today it is the center for many of Diamond Cove’s outdoor social events.

  • The playground, originally located beside the one-room schoolhouse, now sits conveniently next to the Parade Ground.

  • Historical tours of Fort McKinley/Diamond Cove are given daily, by golf cart, and include a visit to our Fort McKinley Museum.

  • And Portland’s theaters, concerts, museums, Old Port shopping district, and multitude of restaurants are just across the bay, easily accessed by Casco Bay Lines.

  • Resident island photographer Amy Farrell has a collection of Great Diamond Island photography and is available to take family portraits or document your island vacation.

ISLAND FACILITIES:

Fort McKinley’s Post Exchange is now Diamond Cove’s Administration Building, and houses:
  • A well-equipped exercise room, including weights, Nautilus, Stairmaster, rowing machine, treadmill, etc.
  • Our restored gymnasium and indoor basketball court
  • A big-screen TV room
  • A video lending library
  • A book exchange

And just next door, the fort’s restored duckpin bowling alley today serves as a recreation center, including ping-pong, a pool table, etc.

The tennis courts are located near the old cemetery, and there’s plenty of room on the Parade Ground to use our croquet, badminton, and volleyball equipment.

Diamond’s Edge Restaurant serving casual gourmet meals seven days a week, commands spectacular views from its position at the water’s edge. Serving lunch, dinner, and a popular Sunday brunch; also featuring a full-service bar.

The General Store provides basic provisions, snacks, take-out lunches, coffee, the morning newspaper, ice cream, penny candy, and a chance to meet your neighbors and relax on the comfortable rocking chairs.

For boaters, Diamond Cove enjoys a naturally protected deep-water harbor. Dock space for visitors is available in our marina.
